Get the facts about the stability and security you... →
I really encourage people to check this out. If you’re one of those who thinks that the government is trying to kill old people and down syndrome babies then this won’t help. But if you’re open to rational thoughts and perspectives, however different from your own, then you should at least take a look.

Is Google’s Android Killing Windows Mobile? →
As hardware manufacturer I would feel a lot better about an OS that is both from a well-respected software company and was open-source.

(watch the video)
Really depressed about the state of the healthcare debate. It’s rare that an issue will so directly affect me like this one and it’s being steamrolled for no practical reason - just political maneuvering.

Stupid People On TV
Here’s what I like about the internet. Whenever anyone in radio/tv news (pundits, anchors, talk show hosts, etc) say anything stupid the internet as a whole pounces. If the blowback is reasonable and logical, it sticks. If it makes no sense, there’s blowback to the blowback. It’s this crowd-sourced criticism that drives reasoned, pragmatic thinkers to the top of the media...

Android pulls ahead of Windows Mobile →
I’m happy that android is pulling ahead of Windows because it’s an open platform. But more interesting than that is the huge share that iPhone OS has considering how young it is and how small a share Windows Mobile is considering how long it’s been around.
Auto-unsubscribe on Gmail →
What a subtle, but great, addition. This is like the Gmail attachment checker add-on in that it’s one of those features that is rarely needed but when the need does arise it’s super handy.

I think there’s potential in an idea where energy monitory technology is coupled with some other institutionalized service like security.

I’m not going to pretend to understand all the ins and outs of this issue, but good lord. Does Ballmer desperately want to be disliked? Is he the Bush of the tech world?

Crash during podcast download on iTunes?
For whatever reason, my Vista laptop frequently crashes when downloading podcasts via iTunes. That’s annoying but what’s even more annoying is that those partially downloaded podcasts are inaccessible. It won’t continue downloading them reporting err -39.
This has been going on for months. But I finally found the solution. iTunes stores partially downloaded podcasts inside...

Google App Engine: It's not you it's me.
I so desperately want to use Google App Engine for my upcoming project but there are major downsides to it that I just can’t ignore.
First, you can’t store more than 1MB in a database BLOB. Given that I plan to be storing lots of files many of which will be larger than 1MB, I think this is a show stopper (or at least a pain in the ass to work around).
Second, The database is not...

A great presentation on the benefits and drawbacks of each technology. The conclusion is non-conclusive but gives you some tips on which to choose based on the criteria that matter most to you. To me, time to implement is critical and this presentation has django coming out ahead.

Dragging Microsoft Into Goodness →
This article sort of highlights why competition with Microsoft is so important. They would never do something like this in a million years had it not been for Google’s encroachment (albeit minor) on their Office territory. Microsoft has to be dragged kicking and screaming into doing the right thing. Sadly, it’s why I will always avoid using Microsoft products to do anything. ...

A perfect ad
A company that makes its living by selling ad space should really do a good job of advertising advertisting. I’m consistently pleasantly surprised by Google - this time by one of their ads. The ad is for their AdSense service which is the backbone of their company. I should note here that it worries me a little that they have to advertise for a service that I think they’ve never had...
