Stupid People On TV
Here’s what I like about the internet. Whenever anyone in radio/tv news (pundits, anchors, talk show hosts, etc) say anything stupid the internet as a whole pounces. If the blowback is reasonable and logical, it sticks. If it makes no sense, there’s blowback to the blowback. It’s this crowd-sourced criticism that drives reasoned, pragmatic thinkers to the top of the media stack. The O’Reillys and Dobbs’ of the world declare their hatred for Media Matters and, more generally, “left-wing” blogs. But they and their ilk rarely actually question the content of the criticism - just that they’re being criticized “unfairly”.
Here’s the thing, guys. You get paid a lot of money. Your words reach a lot of people. Finally…FINALLY, these words are being scrutinized by people outside of your target market. They deserve to be and maybe, just maybe, you’ll think about the meaning of your words more than the effect they’ll have on your own bottom line.
When you think about it, the press now has its own press that’s analyzing and reporting on the “reporters”. We’ve come full circle and this is a very good thing.
